Empowered for Holiness | February 10, 2021

From the book “Seeing the Unseen: A Daily Dose of Eternal Perspective” by Randy Alcorn

Blessed Wednesday everyone. Welcome po sa ating Daily Devotions and today we will be looking at Titus 2 and 2 Peter 1 as we reflect on holiness/kabanalan.

11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, 12 training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age.

Titus 2:11-12 (ESV)

3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.

2 Peter 1:3 (ESV)

Today, we will be looking at holiness and how we are empowered by holiness, by God’s holiness to be precise. Sabi po rito ni Randy Alcorn, “Don’t forget that “the one [Christ] who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” (1 John 4:4, NIV). As powerful as the evil one is to tempt us, God is infinitely more powerful to deliver us, to rescue us and has given us in Christ all the resources we need to live godly lives.” Huwag natin kakalimutan yun mga kapatid. Yes, a believer would still sin, a believer would sin bigtime, but a believer will not completely fall away. We need to understand that the Lord has given us His Spirit, and therefore, we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit and Christ lives in us. Therefore, lahat po ng kakayanan, lahat po ng kapangyarihan to live godly lives were given to us. All we need to do is, to be abiding in Him (John 15), sabi sa Romans 6, to be presenting every member of our bodies to righteousness and to serving God.

“Be holy for I am holy” (1 Peter 1:16). God is the reason we should be holy. Dahil banal ang Diyos at sinasabi natin tayo ay niligtas ng Diyos mula sa kasalanan at para sa Kanya therefore dapat tayong magpakabanal. But He’s also the empowerment for our holiness. Many of us are convinced we should be more holy, but we’ve gone about it wrong. To be holy in our strength, and for our glory, is to be distinctly unholy. If we think that we ought to be holy for holiness sake, at para sa ating sariling luwalhati, then we have started to become unholy. Pero kung alam natin ang pagpapakabanal natin ay dahil sa ang Panginoong Diyos na nagligtas sa atin ay banal, at dahil Siya ay ating mahal at nais nating papurihan at bigyan ng luwalhati, then we would be holy, we would live holy lives. To be holy in Christ’s strength and for His glory: that’s our calling and our joy.
