Thinking like Stewards, Not Owners | February 26, 2021

From the book “Seeing the Unseen: A Daily Dose of Eternal Perspective” by Randy Alcorn

Blessed day everyone, welcome po sa ating devotions and we are wrapping up the week, our seventh week, we are now on Day Five. Today we’ll be looking at 1 Timothy 6 and Acts 20:35.

17 As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share.

1 Timothy 6:17-18 (ESV)

35 In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’

Acts 20:35 (ESV)

As we go back to our devotional ito po ang sinabi ni Randy Alcorn, “When it comes to money and possessions, whenever we think like owners, it’s a red flag.” Oops, maganda yung sinabi niya, and that’s true. Yes, we may own things in this world, but to a believer money and possessions we are not owners but stewards, right? Kaya maganda yung sinabi niya, when it comes to money and possessions whenever we think like owners, it’s a red flag. Meaning, we need to be aware of that. We should be thinking like stewards or investment managers, always looking for the best place to invest the Owner’s money, and who’s the owner of everything that we have? Ang Panginoong Diyos. At the end of our term of service, we’ll undergo a job performance evaluation, sabi sa Romans 14:12: “Each of us will give an account of himself to God”. So isipin natin yun mga kapatid, lahat ng ating tinatangkilik, it’s not just talking about our skills, our talents, our time, even our treasure, lahat ng meron tayo galing sa Panginoong Diyos. Therefore, we are not the real owners of these treasures, we’re just stewards. Sabing gano’n, at the end of our lives we would be giving account, magsusulit po tayo sa kung paano natin ginamit ang lahat-lahat ng pinagkatiwala sa atin ng Panginoong Diyos, para sa Kanyang kaharian. Right?

If we really believe God is the owner of all that has been entrusted to us, shouldn’t we regularly ask Him, “What do You want me to do with Your money and Your possessions?” and shouldn’t we be open to the possibility that He may want us to share large portions of His assets with those in need? These are good questions, right? If God is the Owner and He is, of everything that we have, then shouldn’t we be thinking about, Lord what should I do with this? What should I do with that? ‘di ba po?

“If you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heavens?” (Luke 16:11,NLT). Magandang isipin natin lagi yun, how we handle our possessions or God’s possessions here on earth? Would decide kung anong klaseng riches ang ibigay sa atin ng Panginoong Diyos in Heaven. We need to be evaluating, how we are seeing ourselves? Are we owners or are we just stewards?
