From the book “Truth For Today: A Daily Touch of God’s Grace” by John F. MacArthur
Continuing steadfastly in prayer. - Romans 12:12
For dedicated Christians, steadfast prayer will be as continual in their spiritual life as breathing is in their physical life. That was true of early believers and how they worshiped, both before and after the arrival of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost (Acts 1:14; 2:42). The church first appointed deacons so the apostles could devote themselves “continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word” (Acts 6:4).
God wants you to pray “with the spirit, and . . . with the understanding” (1 Corinthians 14:15) and “without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). That’s why Paul encouraged Timothy to have “the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands” (1 Timothy 2:8).
