From the book “Seeing the Unseen: A Daily Dose of Eternal Perspective” by Randy Alcorn
Blessed Wednesday everyone, welcome to our daily devotions.
32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
Ephesians 4:32 (ESV)
Randy Alcorn writes, “Forgiveness is a matter of choice, not feelings. We demonstrate true forgiveness when we refuse to brood over the sins committed against us.” Maganda yung sinabi niya, at times we say, ‘oh I’ve forgiven you already’, we tend to equate forgiveness with regards to feelings, pero have we really forgiven?
Because of our frailty, because of our sin that remains in us it would continue on hurting each other. At times when we say, when we talk about forgiveness, meron tayong pananaw na, parang victim mentality. We focus on the things that are done against us. But, when we look at sin, in our own sin for that matter and how it has offended the holy, holy, holy God, then it would change the story.
God’s forgiveness of our sins is so amazing that it does not only free us from our sin—from the guilt of our sins—it also enables us to forgive others and move forward free from the past.
“Forgiveness is a matter of choice, not feelings. Yes, we may remember the facts, but we must not allow ourselves to dwell on them. It is possible to “forgive and forget” if we truly do forgive.” -Randy Alcorn
C.S. Lewis wrote, “To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.”
14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Matthew 6:14-15 (ESV)
