A Challenge to Christian Mothers in These Challenging Times

I believe that mothering these days is very much different compared to how our mothers did theirs for us during their time. There are many different challenges, among them being the advancement in technology which has invaded our homes and dictated our lifestyles. This millennial factor and many others are threats to child rearing that calls for us mothers to be more vigilant and more intentional in nurturing our children or they can be snatched away by the bad effects of technology and the world if we don’t do our part. We may not lose them physically but we lose the chance of influencing them and training them in the ways God wants them to be in.

Jochebed, a not very famous mother name in the Bible, faced a very challenging situation in her time after giving birth to her baby. There was the danger of losing her child from the cruel decree of the Pharaoh to kill all Hebrew boys who will be born.  This famous baby was no other than Moses. It was Jochebed’s love, faith, and courage that saved her child from a cruel death and preserved him to bless the world.  He wouldn’t have been the man he was without this mother who exemplified faith, persistence and solid trust in God. What do you do when you can’t do anything more? When all that surrounds you is evil and wickedness?

Christian Moms, does your home reflect falsehood, impurity and the shallowness of this modern world we live in? How much of God do you have in your household that could influence your children against worldliness, sin, and shame? Are we making sure we are building strong Christian convictions in their hearts to shield them from the harmful effects of technology and prepare them for the life outside our homes?

Let us all learn from and be encouraged by Jochebed’s example – a mother of great faith in times of great depression – who entrusted her baby’s life in God’s hand, and who nurtured him with great truths about God that led him to living it out for the glory of God.

“Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her”
Proverbs 31:28
