The Incomparable Beauty of Purity | February 23, 2021

From the book “Seeing the Unseen: A Daily Dose of Eternal Perspective” by Randy Alcorn

Blessed Tuesday everyone, welcome po sa ating daily devotions. And today brings us to two passages, Proverbs 14 and Colossians 3.

27 The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life,
that one may turn away from the snares of death.

Proverbs 14:27 (ESV)

Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth.

Colossians 3:5-8 (ESV)

Strong words from the Word of God. Clearly we’ll be talking about purity and the beauty, the incomparable beauty of purity. As we go back to our devotional, Seeing the Unseen: A Daily Dose of Eternal Perspective. We read Randy Alcorn saying this, “Sexual purity is not an option for an obedient christian it’s a requirement.” Sexual purity nowadays is trivialized. We hear people say as long as you love each other, as long as you’re careful, pero mga kaibigan, sexual intimacy is meant for married couples, regardless if you love each other or not, as long as you’re not married yet that is not the thing that you should be doing especially if you claim to be believers. Ang Kristiyano, hindi option ang pagiging pure sexually, but it’s a requirement.

“God’s will is centered on our character and moral purity much more than on our circumstances such as job, housing, and schooling.” When we talk about God’s will, we say, o papano ba? Ano kaya ang kalooban ng Panginoong Diyos? Saan kaya ako magtatrabaho? Saan kaya akong bahay titira o saang lugar kaya ako titira? Anong school kaya pupuntahan ko? Yes, God is interested, is concern about those details but God’s will is not just centered on location, on other stuff, but more on our character. You want to know God’s will? 1 Thessalonians 4 explicitly says, it is God’s will that you should be sanctified. Ano ang kalooban ng Diyos? That we would be consecrated, that we should be living holy lives, that you should avoid sexual immorality.

Therefore as we live for the now looking forward to the then, I pray that we would live pure lives by His grace—solely by His grace. And when we fall (and we will), come running to the Lord who desires to forgive you and restore a genuine repentant follower of Him.

Either sin will keep you from the Word, or the Word will keep you from sin.

John bunyan

Little souls make little lusts have great power. The soul, as it were, expands to encompass the magnitude of its treasure. The human soul was made to see and savor the supremacy of Christ. Nothing else is big enough to enlarge the soul as God intended and make little lusts lose their power.

John Piper
