Two Ways God’s People Rest on God’s Blessings
Sermon Outline:
Two Ways God's People Rest on God's Blessings (Psalm 127:1-5, ESV)
- God's people rest on GOD in the routine blessings of everyday life (Psalm 127:1-2)
- For their home (Psalm 127:1a)
1a Unless the LORD builds the house,
those who build it labor in vain.
-
- For their security & protection (Psalm 127:1b)
1b Unless the LORD watches over the city,
the watchman stays awake in vain.
-
- For their daily bread (Psalm 127:2)
2 It is in vain that you rise up early
and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
for he gives to his beloved sleep.
- God's people rest on GOD for the rich blessings of family life (Psalms 127:3-5)
- For young children - God's provision for parents early in life (Psalms 127:3)
3 Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD,
the fruit of the womb a reward.
-
- For adult children - God's protection of parents late in life (Psalms 127:4-5)
4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
are the children of one's youth.
5 Blessed is the man
who fills his quiver with them!
He shall not be put to shame
when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
